WHAT IS SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE?

School Age Child Care programs provide elementary school children with a safe, structured environment both before and after school hours. This enables parents to work or attend school without the burden of concern for their child during the hours when school is not in session.

Since 1985, Colonial Youth and Family Services, in conjunction with the William Floyd School District, has offered both Before and After School Child Care Programs for elementary school children. We have expanded our programs to include a School Vacation Program, a Parent/Teacher Conference Program and a Day Care Program. The agency is committed to providing a quality program that meets the needs of children, parents and the community.

  STAFFING: Staff to child ratio is 1:10

Before School Program

Our Before School Program is held in school at specific locations (i.e. Tangier Smith, Hobart, Moriches Elementary, William Floyd Elementary, Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary and the Little Red School House) in a designated classroom and/or the school library as needed. Each morning program runs for two hours prior to the school day. The children have craft projects and art supplies available for their use. The school provides a TV/VCR for our use for children to watch age appropriate movies. A snack is supplied by the program, however, any child wishing to use the school breakfast program are able to do so.

After School Program

The After School Program is held at the Little Red School House on Montauk Hwy. The program runs from 3:OOPM to 6:OOPM. A snack is provided when children arrive. Homework is done, after this is free play, organized games and movies. Transportation is provided by the district bus company as needed from all elementary buildings to the Little Red School House. A f ire drill is conducted each month by on site staff.

Day Care Program
Our Day Care Program is held at the Little Red School on Montauk Hwy for 3 & 4 year olds. We offer full and half day programs. After care and sliding scale is also available. This program offers story time, circle time, free play and group activities. A snack is provided by the program however children must bring a bag lunch.

School/Vacation Program
Colonial will provide child care for those children enrolled in our existing program during selected times of vacation when the school district will be closed. This program will be provided in the Little Red School House. Transportation will be provided by the parents. Snack will be provided, however, children will be required to bring their own bag lunch. Programs will consist of organized activities, arts & crafts.

Parent/Teacher Conference pays Program
Colonial will provide child care for those children enrolled in our existing program during Parent/Teacher Conference days. This program will be held in the Little Red School House. Transportation will be provided from school to the program with the parents responsible for picking child up by 6:OOPM.

Summer Program
Our extended summer program is held at the Little Red School House from 9:OOAM to 4:OOPM. Activities include indoor and outdoor sports and games, gym, movies and library, arts & crafts, field trips and recreational swimming at the Brookhaven Town Pool under the YMCA. Before and aftercare is available.
