Meetings & Events

'The most powerful process any company can adopt to improve productivity and competitiveness is the transfer of best practice'

Through our regular meetings and events, held locally and featuring guest speakers with a wide range of information relevant to all,  the Chamber encourages the sharing of knowledge between businesses of all kinds and between the members of our community.

These events are informal, with one of the main objectives to encourage questions and dialogue with the speakers. This will assist  to understand the implications for a small business as well as to the community we live in.

General Meeting (11/14/05)

The general meeting started at 7:23 pm

The treasurer, Barbara Giaccone read the treasurer's report. She stated that the balance was $5,108.39 and presented 4 bills to be paid.

A motion was made by Tony Liberti and 2nd by Glenn Hollins to have the following 2 business's approved for membership: Joyful noise production and Baysides Restaurant.

Correspondence
The Chamber member for the month was James Ing (Ng) with Business Networking International. Mr. Ing (Ng) spoke about the increase rates of real estate and the importance of investing.

Committee Reports
Susan Wischhusen spoke about the "super chamber lottery" fundraiser. Tickets are $10 each.

Tony Liberty informed the Chamber members that everything is on schedule for the 36th annual Christmas parade, which is on Sunday, December 4th and that the judges will be stationed at the reviewing stand located across the street from ice cream cottage.

During dinner, guest speaker Bill Adams with combined life insurance, spoke to the Chamber members about his non-rated Sickness or accident policy. Depending on the policy you apply for, Combined Life Insurance will pay you a certain amount of compensation per day that you are in the hospital.

Karen Poidomani, who is a representative for the Wm. Floyd High School, gave a brief summary on a career awareness program named "Career Development Council". Ms. Poidomani had stated that she needed volunteers in different career fields to speak to the freshman students involved in this program. She also asked if some volunteers are willing to have some of these students accompany them during the work day resulting in more of a hands on experience.

Business teacher for Wm. Floyd High School, Greg Plantier, informed the Chamber members that they are looking for donations for the school's store. If anyone would like to donate, you may contact him at 874-1120.



High School Business student Jason McMullen spoke to the Chamber about a website called "scoresup.com". It is a student run website where business owners can advertise their business by purchasing a banner on this site or offering "E coupons" resulting in promoting their business.

Tony Liberti stated that the Chamber needs a head count for the Chamber Christmas party on Monday, December 12th at 7pm at Ladakins Restaurant following the elections. Tickets are $20 per person.

Joe Asaro stated that the Chamber still needs sponsors for the Christmas parade. You may contact him at 281-5500.

Joe Asaro, Chairman of the nominating committee, presented the slate of officers and Directors as stated in the newsletter. The following 3 nominations were presented off the floor: Mark Smothergill, Barbara Johanntges and Tim Ryan.

The 50/50 raffle of $58 was won by Joe Asaro and the special raffle ticket was drawn by Frank Giaccone, with Barbara's Stage door who failed to draw the ace of spades.

State Farm Insurance announced that they are having their grand opening on Saturday, December 10th between 12-2pm.

The Kiwanis Club is holding a fire prevention event at Burger King on Sunday, November 27th between 11am-3pm. The Mastic volunteer Fire dept. will be discussing home safety, the dangers of fire and proper fire safety.

The Montauk Hwy. merchants and the South Shore Press announced a Chinese auction benefit for the Declan's Well Foundation being held at the Mastic Beach Property Owners hall on Friday, November 18th between 6-9pm. Tickets are $5 per person.

The South Shore Press is holding a fundraiser in honor of Stephen on Monday, December 12th at Violet Cove Restaurant between 6-9pm. Tickets are $30 and include a 15 minute psychic reading with Janet Russell, buffet and raffle entry. Contact the South Shore Press for tickets.

Mark Smothergill stated that he would be visiting all of the Chamber Business's to have them advertise in the upcoming Chamber directory.

A motion was made by Helen Sunderman and 2nd by Joe Capuano to close this meeting at 8:44pm.
